Pickwick, Tennessee, USA, May 1, 2017
We have had a lot of rain this Spring; water levels are high on lakes and rivers. When we
were at Pickwick (on the Tennessee River) on Monday about half the dam's spillways were
open to help ease the rising water levels upriver.

The water was rolling and splashing over the pedestrian walkway at the river's edge that fishermen normally use to get closer to the water. Too dangerous to walk down there now.

But the roiling water coming through the spillways did not stop the Great Blue Herons. They were flying back and forth looking for fish to grab out of the water.

Another fish dinner caught, brought to shore, and quickly swallowed!

I hope you have good weather in your part of the world!

  6. Wow that's a lot of rainwater. Obviously didn't stop the herons at all -- that's quite a catch. Lovely photo! (Well, they all are great, but I love the GB with his catch.)
